Squidward watching the recording through her monitor as they sing the Goofy Goober song and dry out. Perhaps you could have it revealed by Karen that they made it there to get back at Plankton for being a jerk. They were happy with that and they sing their song.
The ending of the movie should have been Spongebob and Patrick drying out after having made it to shell city. They even tease this by having him figure out plankton's plan(which kind of goes nowhere) He should have had an arc where he becomes the one to save the town while Patrick and Spongebob are gone. I wish they had called out the other characters for this fact instead of belittling the Sponge throughout the whole movie. I get that it's a movie and they needed Spongebob to go through a character arc.but the whole "just a kid" thing is complete nonsense.Įvery other main character in the movie besides Mindy acts more childish than Spongebob ever would. He should have immediately seen Spongebob as a better candidate.
I dont care if he comes around at the end. Krabs is insane for thinking that Squidward would be better as a manager than Spongebob. He has moments of sincerity, but overall he's a terrible example of what it means to be an adult. Squidward is condescending, rude, and makes excuses for not getting his artwork out into the world.
Plus unlike Squidward, he actually enjoys working at the Krusty Krab so he even has a real passion that he's getting paid to do. He has goofy habits but he's no slouch in the adult department. The movie goes out of its way to say that Spongebob is "just a kid," but they never actually acknowledge the adult shit that he does, like own a house, pay the bills, and take pride in his work. MY big gripe is that Krabs decided that Squidward would be a good fit for manager at the start of the movie. I don't actually have a problem with that. I also think it'd be a huge character moment for Plankton, finally getting what he's wanted all these years.Įh.
So, I would negate this issue by having Plankton hire Dennis after his scene with Karen.ĮDIT: Oh yeah, since the show was originally intended to be the series finale, it would've been the perfect opportunity to reveal the Krabby Patty formula.
he reveals that he's already hired a hitman to go after SpongeBob and Patrick.Įxcuse me, how the fuck would Plankton know that SpongeBob and Patrick were after the crown, especially when it's made clear that he did not know so and that Karen's sensors had sensed SpongeBob and Patrick going after the crown? And even if he didn't, the scene is literally a minute long, there was clearly no time within the context of the scene itself for Plankton to hire Dennis to go after SpongeBob and Patrick. In the movie, Karen informs Plankton that SpongeBob and Patrick are heading to retrieve King Neptune's crown and it's pretty clear in the context of this scene Plankton was unaware of this. Secondly, there is one scene I absolutely despise.
Those kinda turned me off and ruined part of the experience. tone down some of the facial expressions, visually. I thought it was a very good book-end to SpongeBob SquarePants, canon- and continuity-wise (I am okay with there being more seasons, despite their flaws, as we're always hungry for more), with myself kind of thinking of a direct sequel/continuation of the movie, but even this movie has small, minor problems or nitpicks.
